Morris Mel, 82, North Haven


Morris J. Mel, 82, of North Haven, died peacefully on May 24 at the Arden Health & Rehab in Hamden.  He was the husband of Irene V. DiFabbio Mel.  Morris was born in New Haven on Nov. 8, 1930, son of the late Giovanni and Marie DePolo Mel. He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Air Force and had worked for UNC Naval Products for many years until his retirement. He was an avid hunter, having been a member of the Suburban Gun Club. He also enjoyed woodworking, coin collecting, and watching UConn Women's Basketball. 

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, John Mel and his wife Andrea of North Haven and Linda Wolf and her husband Donald of Wallingford; five grandchildren, Brittany, Stephanie, and Nicholas Mel, and Justin and Corbin Wolf; and his sister Ada D’Aniello and her husband Al of Georgia. He was predeceased by two siblings, Mary and Edward Kraft.

His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven, on Wednesday, May 29, at 9:30 a.m.  A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Therese Church at 10 a.m., followed by entombment with full military honors in the All Saints Mausoleum.  Visiting hours will be Tuesday, May 28, from 5 to 8 p.m.  Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Dr., Wallingford, CT  06492.
