Lea S. Tennyson, 73, North Haven


Lea S. Lutters Tennyson, 73, of North Haven, died peacefully at her home on May 9 with her family by her side, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was the beloved wife of 54 years to George A. Tennyson.  Lea was born in Bridgeport on Aug. 7 1939, daughter of Agnes Olson Lutters of Castle Rock, Colorado, and the late Samuel F. Lutters. She grew up in Pinewood Lake, Trumbull and graduated from Warren Harding High School. She also attended Barrington College and was retired from Filtra/Spec, Inc. of Hamden. 

Lea’s passion was tending to her vegetable and flower gardens.  In addition, she loved to play the piano, sing, and she was an avid reader. 

Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by her loving children, Koryn Coppola and her husband John of Alton Bay, New Hampshire, Kevin S. Tennyson of North Haven, Erik S. Tennyson and his wife Brenda of East Haven, and Jennifer Alfieri, also of East Haven.  She was “Nana” to Mindy and Renee Coppola, and “Great–Nana” to Autumn Woods, all of New Hampshire.  She is also survived by her brother Kenneth Lutters and his wife Carol of Newtown Square, Pennsylvania; her sister Barbara Smith of Castle Rock, Colorado; her special aunt Betty Olson; two pets, “Stella” and “Twinkie;” several nieces and nephews and their children; and numerous special cousins.  She was predeceased by her special uncle, Dan Olson; her brother-in-law Kingston Smith; her son-in-law Dominic Alfieri; other family members; and numerous pets.

Funeral services and burial were private and took place in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Radio Fellowship, 1933 S. Main St., Middletown, CT  06457, or to the Connecticut Alzheimer’s Association, 2075 Silas Deane Hwy., Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT  06067. The North Haven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
