Shirley Cordner Stephens, 85, Northford


Shirley Cordner Stephens, 85, of Northford, died peacefully in Branford on May 2 after a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of the late William C. Stephens, Sr.  Mrs. Stephens was born in East Haven on Jan. 11, 1928, daughter of the late Emily Knowlton Cordner and Edward Cordner. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Stephens had been employed by Stop & Shop in personnel for more than 25 years.

She leaves behind a love of music and singing, a fondness for big dogs, reading absolutely everything, and a love for their vacation home, which was in Vershire, Vermont.

She is survived by her son William Stephens of Northford; two daughters, Emily (Marciniec) Master and her husband David of Chester and Kathleen Stephens McFarland of New Haven; her grandson Robert S. Marciniec and his wife Marci of Haddam; and four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Nathan, Abigail, and Gabriel of Haddam. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law; her brother in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family.
