Clifford P. Mott, 89, Westbrook


Clifford P. Mott, 89, a Westbrook resident since 1968, died on April 28 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. Cliff was the beloved husband of Ann (Austin) Mott. He was born in Staten Island, New York, son of the late Clinton Dewitt and Josephine (Prece) Mott. Cliff proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He participated in the Invasion of Normandy on D-Day and received five battle stars for his participation in every major campaign throughout the European Theater.

Cliff had a long career in sales and last worked for Apple Oil in West Haven, retiring in August of 2012. He was also a communicant at Saint Mark the Evangelist Church in Westbrook and Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Essex.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son Clifford and wife Arlene of Brooklyn, New York; his beloved granddaughters, Thalia and Violet; his sister-in-law Vera Mott of Cary, North Carolina; and his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four siblings.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at Saint Mark the Evangelist Church, 222 McVeagh Rd., Westbrook, on Saturday, May 4, at 11:30 a.m. Full military honors will be rendered at the church following the mass. Private burial will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Westbrook. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas, 66675.
