04/22/2013 12:00 PMDiane P. (Pomerleau) Hardy, 72, of Northford, died on April 19 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was the wife of 52 years to Louis C. Hardy. Diane was born in Rochester, New Hampshire, on Dec. 16, 1940, daughter of the late Edward J. and Beatrice Turmelle Pomerleau. She had worked for more than 31 years for the federal government, including more than 29 years at the West Haven VA Medical Center, where she had served as the administrative officer to the director at the West Haven VA for nine consecutive directors until her retirement in 2004. Diane also loved to travel, including 20 years as an Air Force wife, having made homes in New Hampshire, Mississippi, Libya, Texas, Hawaii, and finally Connecticut. She especially loved to vacation in the Caribbean and was an avid reader.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her three sons, Timothy Hardy and his wife Lisa of Marietta, New York, Gregory Hardy and his wife Judith Houde Hardy of Meriden, New Hampshire, and Douglas Hardy and his wife Christine Stuart of Windsor. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sarah Kate Czornig and her husband John, and Jasmine, Kelsey, Cooper, and Grayson Hardy; three great-grandchildren, Emma Hardy and Aiden and Tucker Czornig; two brothers, Ronald Pomerleau and his wife Nancy of Amherst, New Hampshire, and David Pomerleau of Roanoke, Virginia; her sister-in-law Phyllis Pomerleau of Dover, New Hampshire; an aunt, Irene Shevenell of Scarborough, Maine; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Glen "Butch" Pomerleau.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Diane’s life on Tuesday, April 23, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven. Private burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
