03/21/2013 11:00 AMBetty M. (Walsmith) Walters, 89, of North Haven, died on March 19 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with family by her side. She was the wife of the late Raymond E. Walters. Betty was born in Logan, Ohio, on Feb. 3, 1924, daughter of the late John W. and Margaret M. (Flowers) Walsmith. Betty loved and cherished all things in nature, and especially enjoyed feeding and caring for birds, squirrels, and other wildlife. She was an avid advocate for animal rights, had rescued several dogs, and generously supported many charitable animal welfare organizations.
She is survived by her children, Lynne Rodgers and her husband William of Kokomo, Indiana, Kathleen Sutherland and her husband John of Willington, and Robert Walters and his wife Lorraine of Webster, New York. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kristen Tirreno and her husband Daniel, Lindsay Proctor and her husband Joshua, Stephen Sutherland, Bradley Rodgers, Mark Walters, Jennifer Sutherland, and Sarah Walters.
