02/25/2013 09:00 AMAllen M. Foley, 82, of Old Saybrook, died on Feb. 19. He was the beloved husband of 55 years to the late Leona F. Foley. Allen was born in Hartford on Aug. 25, 1930 and grew up in the South End. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1947, and in 1951 he became a steamfitter. He was a proud member of the Steamfitters Local 218.
Allen had a lifelong passion for golf. He began playing as a boy in Goodwin Park and had been a member at the Rockledge Country Club, Clinton Country Club, the Black Hall Country Club, and the Fenwick Country Club. In addition, he was a lifetime Elks Club member and was active at the Westbrook Elks Club.
He is survived by his five grateful children and their spouses, Martin Foley, Kathleen Foley Marshall, Kevin and Mary Foley, Thomas and Regina Foley, and Aileen and James Foley-Troy, as well as five loving grandchildren, Jason, Matthew, and Gabriel Simoni, and Timothy and Maeve Foley. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Bertrand Foley and Daniel Foley.
A funeral mass will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church, Old Saybrook, on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m. Burial will take place on Monday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m., in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
