02/13/2013 01:45 PMRobert William (“Bob”) Hill, 50, of Old Saybrook, died on Feb. 9 at the Middlesex Shoreline Clinic in Essex. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Riley) Hill. Bob was born in Danbury on April 9, 1962, son of Sandra (Bromley) Hill of Bethel and the late Louis Hill. Bob graduated from Bethel High School in 1981 and had been employed since he was 17 years old as a floor mechanic for Connecticut Carpenters Union Local 210.
Bob spent many summer family vacations on Block Island, where he loved kite flying, fishing, and body surfing. He followed both of his favorite sports teams, the New York Mets and New York Giants, and you could always find him groovin’ to the Grateful Dead.
Bob was involved in his community of Old Saybrook, including many town sport programs, and he had been a CCD instructor at St. Mark the Evangelist Church for many years.
Bob loved his family, always surrounding himself with them and his close friends. Bob was quick witted and a great story teller. He was also a great husband and father. Old Saybrook has lost a good friend.
Besides his wife of 22 years and his mother, Bob is survived by two children, his son Riley and his daughter Sarah. He is also survived by two sisters, Tracy Hill and Anne Marie Marron; his brother Mark Hill; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Family and friends may visit St. Mark Evangelist Church, 222 McVeagh Rd., Westbrook, on Friday Feb. 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a mass of Christian burial at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Riley and Sarah Hill Educational Fund, c/o Essex Savings Bank, 155 Main St., Old Saybrook, CT 06475.
