01/25/2013 11:30 AMHenry V. Vaitaitis, 82, a long time resident of Old Saybrook, died peacefully on Jan. 17 after a long illness. Born in Lithuania on Jan. 19, 1930, Hank was the beloved husband of 53 years to Lydia (Poreda) Vaitaitis. After coming to the United States in 1951, he proudly served in the Korean War.
Hank was a former employee of Pfizer in Groton and later the long time owner of the Westbrook Lobster Company. After his early retirement, he enjoyed many years in Florida, golfing and spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his three daughters, Donna Zawisza and her husband Paul of Florida, Debbie Leary and her husband Jim of Tennessee, and Diane Simoneau and her husband Paul of Ivoryton. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Heather Jenkins, Daniel Zawisza, Keli Scott, Brett, Seth, and Jesse Leary, and Jack and Jason Simoneau.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Jan. 24, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook. A graveside service will be held on Friday, Jan. 25, at 12 noon, in Cypress Cemetery, Old Saybrook. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Middlesex Memorial Hospital Hospice Care Unit, 55 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
