Eleanor “Muffie” Higgins, 95, Branford


Eleanor “Muffie” Higgins, 95, formerly of 120 Harbor St., Branford, died on Dec. 23 at the Branford Hills Health Care Center (BHHCC).  She was the wife of the late James Higgins. Mrs. Higgins was born in Branford on Dec. 14, 1917, daughter of the late George and Lizzie Tyler Walsh. She had formerly worked during the summers at the Owenego Inn in Branford.  Mrs. Higgins was a great fan of the New York Yankees and UConn Women’s basketball, and she loved to read and play bingo at BHHCC. 

Mrs. Higgins’ family thanks the nurses and aides on the second floor at BHHCC for everything they did for her while she was there and to Ellen Leslie for all the help she gave her.

Mrs. Higgins is survived by her daughter, Susan Wright and her husband William of Prospect. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by two sisters, Marion Terwilliger and Irene Schmidt, and four brothers, Richard, Joseph, Edwin, and Calvin Walsh.

Friends may call on Friday, Dec. 28, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford, and are invited to a graveside service in St. Agnes Cemetery at 12:15 p.m. For directions and online memorial see www.wsclancy.com.
