12/13/2012 11:00 AMElvira “Vera” Marino Cappiello, 78, of North Branford, formerly of Greene St., New Haven, died peacefully on Dec. 10 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of late Joseph S. Cappiello. Vera was born in New Haven on June 20, 1934, daughter of the late Francesco and Letizia Santacroce Marino. She was a graduate of St. Vincent’s Nursing School and was the co-coordinator for the Fair Haven Community Health Clinic at Bella Vista in New Haven. She was also a member of the Saint Trofemina Society.
She is survived by her children, Michael Serio and his wife Susan of Madison, Gary Serio and his wife Elaine of Guilford, and Susan Campagna and her husband Adam of North Branford. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Justin, Jonathan, Zachary, Nicholas, Jamie, and Brittany Serio, and Adam, Lea, and Luke Campagna; four siblings, Ralph Marino of New Haven, Leo Marino and his wife Theresa of Branford, Elizabeth “Betty” Marino of East Haven, and Frank Marino, also of East Haven; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Maria Bianchi and Raffaella Marino.
Her family will receive friends in the Parish Center located behind St. Anthony’s Church, 70 Washington Ave., New Haven, on Saturday morning, Dec. 15, from 9 to 10 a.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Church at 10 a.m., followed by burial in All Saints Cemetery.
