William H. Collier, 88, Branford


William Howard Collier, 88, of Branford, died Nov. 15 at his home.  He was the husband of the late Evelyn Swezey Collier.  He was born in New Haven on Feb. 22, 1924, son of the late Edward D. and Helen Sweeney Collier.  William served bravely in the U.S. Army in the European Campaign during World War II, including participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He was also part owner and master mechanic for the former Fletcher’s Garage in New Haven.

He is survived by his brother Donald Collier and wife Edith of Branford; his niece Judy Werner; his nephew Franklin Swezey, Jr.; his longtime caregiver Inga Martinez; and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Edward, Kenneth, and John Collier, and three sisters, Estelle Werner, Marion Blake, and Helen Seebo.

There are no calling hours. Private funeral services and burial will take place at the convenience of his family.  Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.  The W.S.
