Winthrop K. Smith, 94, Branford


Winthrop K. Smith, 94, of Branford, died on Nov. 8 in Old Saybrook.  He was the husband of Oma Wallace Smith.  Mr. Smith was born in Branford on June 14, 1918, son of the late Joseph and Bertha Smith.  He was a lifelong resident of Branford and had formerly worked at MIF and Nutmeg Steel in Branford. 

Mr. Smith was a member and past Commodore of the Branford Yacht Club, where he was an avid fisherman and boater. In 2003, he was awarded a certificate of appreciation from the Branford Medical Transport for driving for 20 years, 100,000 miles, and carrying 6,200 passengers.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Nancy Teolis of Westbrook.  He was predeceased by three sisters.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m., at the W.S.
