11/09/2012 01:00 PMAnn Newsom Earle of North Madison, formerly of Old Saybrook and Clinton, died on Oct. 20. She was the wife of the late Clayton Earle and the late Donald E. Ullrich. Ann was born in Bridgeport in 1928, daughter of the late Ruth Beach and Beaufort R. L. Newsom. She lived in West Hartford until her family moved to Clinton in the early 1940s.
Ann graduated from Morgan High School in 1946 and married Donald E. Ullrich in 1949. After a few years, they settled in Old Saybrook, where Donald died suddenly in 1966.
Ann was a store manager and giftware buyer for the Hitchcock Chair Company of Riverton for 15 years and was responsible for opening stores in New York State, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
In 1989, she married Clayton Earle of Southington. They later moved to Legend Hill in North Madison where Mr. Earle, the beloved adopted grandfather of Ann’s three grandchildren, died in 2002.
Over the years, Ann volunteered with the Girl Scouts, the New Britain Museum of American Art, and the Guilford Public Library.
She is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Kate Hutchinson Keesen of Amsterdam (NL), Jim Iacovelli of San Francisco, California, and Nicole Iacovelli of Niantic. She was the proud great-grandmother of Quintijn Jan Keesen, born this past July to Kate and Pieter Keesen.
She is also survived by her two daughters, Donna Ullrich Hutchinson of Wickford, Rhode Island, the wife of Kitty Cook, and Lynn Ullrich Iacovelli and her husband Nick of East Haddam. In addition, she is survived by her brother, John B. Newsom and his wife Elsie of Clinton and their three children, Deborah, Susan, and Tim, as well as her best friend and the love-of-her-life, Larry DeFrancesco.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m., at the North Madison Congregational Church. Donations to the Holy Advent Episcopal Church in Clinton, or to the Guilford or Clinton Public Libraries will be gratefully accepted. The Swan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
