10/19/2012 11:45 AMBenjamin J. Gilhuly, Jr., 85, of East Haven, died in New Haven on Oct. 13. He was the beloved husband of Josephine DeCato Gilhuly. Mr. Gilhuly was born in New Haven on Aug.18, 1927, son of the late Benjamin J. and Christine Riley Gilhuly, Sr. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and had been employed for many years as a pipefitter and asbestos worker. He was also an avid reader who went almost daily to the Hagaman Memorial Library in East Haven and was a member of the East Haven Senior Citizens.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Patricia Fortin and her husband Paul of Wallingford, Sharon Gilhuly of East Haven, Benjamin J.Gilhuly and his wife Irene of North Branford, Kathleen Rosadini of Branford and David Rosadini of North Branford, and Jamie Douglas and her husband Kevin of East Haven. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lisa Duchnowsky, Michael, Joseph, and Nicole Gilhuly, Danielle Rosadini, Heather Douglas and her husband Jacob Gotilboski, and Jennifer and Brittany Douglas; two great-grandchildren, Justine Bone and Julia DuShane; three siblings, Patricia Roche of Woodbridge, Elizabeth Foley of Middletown, and John Gilhuly of North Haven; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Catherine Chapin and Geraldine O’Brien, and two brothers, George Gilhuly and Leonard"Joe"Gilhuly.
A prayer service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. at the Clancy Funeral Home; 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven Burial will be private. Friends may call prior to the service on Sunday from 12 noon until 2 p.m. www.clancyfuneralhome.com.
