Stephen F. Mayer, Sr., 96, East Haven
Stephen F. Mayer, Sr., 96, of East Haven, died at home on Oct. 5. He was the husband of the late Clara Chaosky Mayer. Stephen was born in New Haven on April 3, 1916, son of the late Ignatz Louis and Anna Nameth Mayer. He was a graduate of Hillhouse High School, class of 1935, and served with the U.S. Army National Guard. He had been employed for many years as a set-up man in the pressrooms of several area manufacturing companies, including Echlin Manufacturing. Stephen was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church in East Haven and was a life member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 1200.
He is survived by his children, Valerie Savarese and her husband Alphonse of Monroe, Stephen F. Mayer, Jr. and his wife Georgiann of New Haven, and William L. Mayer and his wife Judith of East Haven. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Robert L. Mayer and Frederick P. Mayer; his brother, Frank Mayer; and his sister, Helen Baribault.
His funeral procession left the Clancy Funeral Home, East Haven, on Oct. 8 for a mass of Christian burial at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Burial was in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
