09/14/2012 02:00 PMAnthony Alphonse Izzo of New Haven, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died on Sept. 8. He was the husband of the late Margaret Palmer Izzo. Anthony was born in New Haven, son of the late Stephen and Angelina Geruso Izzo. He had been a truck tire builder with Armstrong Rubber Company for 37 years, retiring many years ago. During World War II, Anthony’s deferment from military service was given in recognition of the importance of tire manufacturing in the success of the war effort.
Anthony was a great handyman, enjoying home projects, fishing, and gardening, but of course, his greatest love was his family.
He is survived by a son, Stephen Izzo and his wife Doreen of Guilford; a daughter, Patricia Izzo Berkovitz and her husband John, also of Guilford; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Bill, Nick, Stephen, and Henry, and by three sisters, Jane, Josie, and Marion.
His funeral procession will leave the Keenan Funeral Home, 330 Notch Hill Rd. (Rte. 22 South at Rte. 80), North Branford, on Friday, Sept. 14, at 10:30 a.m., for a mass of Christian burial, which will be celebrated at St. Augustine Church, Caputo Rd., North Branford, at 11 a.m. Entombment will take place in the St. Lawrence Garden Mausoleum, West Haven.
