08/16/2012 12:00 AMNicholas T. Sorvillo, Sr., 93, of Hamden, died Aug. 5 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford. He was the husband of the late Louise S. Funaro Sorvillo. Mr. Sorvillo was born in New Haven on April 16, 1919, son of the late Raffaele and Antoinette Pinto Sorvillo. He was a machinist for the Olin-Mathieson Company and had served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Sorvillo was a Eucharistic minister at St. Francis Church in New Haven and was a member of the Legion of Mary at St. Francis Church, New Haven, and St. Therese Church, North Haven.
He is survived by two children, Linda Diana and her husband Perin of Callawassie, South Carolina, and Nicholas T. Sorvillo, Jr., and his wife Kathleen of Savannah, Georgia. He is also survived by a sister, Emily Corrado of East Haven; five grandchildren, Jason and Jacquelyn Sorvillo, and David, Jeffrey, and Kerrie Diana; and nine great-grandchildren, Colin and Finley Sorvillo and Jake, Daniel, Dylan, Ethan, Avery Diana, Sopheia, and Elodie Powell. He was predeceased by his brother Frank Sorvillo and two sisters, Rachael George and Anna Colavolpe.
His funeral procession left the North Haven Funeral Home on Aug. 8 for a Mass of Christian burial at St. Francis Church, New Haven. Burial was in All Saints Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Connecticut Hospice Inc., 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
