08/10/2012 02:00 PMSabina (“Skimpy Sue”) Krygier, 88, of North Haven, formerly of the Village at Mariner’s Point in East Haven, died on July 20 at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late William (Bill) Krygier, Sr., and daughter of the late Anthoni (Gresziak) Gozek and Mamie Grabowski Gresziak Wayart, who were of Polish descent. Sue and Bill were the owners of Bill’s Cleaners and Tailors on East Street in New Haven, the largest wholesale cleaning establishment in the county. Their clients included many local cleaning establishments, as well as a nationally known bridal outfit.
Together, Sue and Bill worked tirelessly for more than 40 years and rarely took the opportunity to enjoy time away from their enterprise. Their greatest rewards and pleasures centered around the time they spent with their extended family.
During those 40 years, Sue and Bill formed Krygier Realty Associates and acquired rental housing properties within New Haven County. Sue very actively managed those investments on a daily basis until her death at 88 years of age, just prior to her 89th birthday. It was not unusual for tenants to find her knocking on their doors with her cane to remind them of their exterior housekeeping responsibilities. They respected her tenacity and her efforts to keep living standards above par.
Sue’s family will miss her inspiration to fight the good fight, along with her motto to “never give up.” Her favorite pastimes were dining out, feeding her three favorite squirrels and the birds that visited her back door daily, negotiating business deals, and creating holiday food extravaganzas for her family that included authentic Polish cooking. Her legacy, the life lessons she taught, and her love of family will be remembered and will continue to grow.
She is survived by her children and their spouses William and his wife Bette of Madison and their children Lindsay, Sean, and Chad; Gerald and his wife Karen of Guilford and children Keith, Danielle, Jeralyn, and Amanda; and Karen and her husband Edward of North Haven and their son Christopher. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Landon, Brennen, William, Sadie, and Emmalyn. She was predeceased by her sisters Helen Howe and Edith Brudz.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 705 North Mountain Rd., Suite G102, Newington, CT 06111. The Porto Funeral Home, East Haven, was in charge of arrangements.
