Memorial Gathering on Aug. 18 for Cornelius B. (“Neil”) Smith, Sr. and Marguerite Elizabeth (“Bette”) Smith, formerly of Deep River
A memorial gathering in honor of the late Cornelius B. (“Neil”) Smith, Sr., 83, and his wife of 56 years, the late Marguerite Elizabeth (“Bette”) Smith, 88, will be held on Aug. 18 at 12 noon (changed from 3 p.m.) at The Carriage House in Deep River. A lifelong resident of Deep River, Mr. Smith died on Sept. 20, 2003. Mrs. Smith, a Deep River resident who was formerly of East Lyme, died on May 27, 2012.
Mrs. Smith was one of the first RN’s hired at Chesterfield’s Skilled Facility, then under the direction of Dr. David Lieberman. She was also the smiling school nurse with the white cap at Valley Regional High School for many years.
Mr. Smith was a retired postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service. He had been a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, was past president of the Rotary Club, and was a member of the Elks and the Exchange Club, all in Deep River.
