Serafina Lena Bimonte Kinnare, St. Augustine, Florida, formerly of Madison and Hamden


Serafina L. Kinnare of St. Augustine, Florida, formerly of Madison and Hamden, died June 11 after a tragic motor vehicle accident.  She was the beloved wife of William Patrick Kinnare, originally of Madison, and the loving mother of her seven children, Padraig Jameson, Filomena Alexandria, Isabella Mairead, Lucia Giana Fatima, Anastasia Serafina, Ambrose Augustine, and Fulton Michael. She was also the beloved and precious daughter of Jennifer Bimonte Kelly and James Kelly of Madison.

Serafina grew up in Hamden and Madison and graduated from Daniel Hand High School in 1995. Throughout her life she was an avid softball player, runner, and budding golfer.  She brought that love of sport into her family, encouraging her children to enjoy the same activities.   She was best known as a tender, loving Mother, giving all she had at any hour day or night.  She will be remembered as a nurse, cook, playmate, fixer, teacher, and friend.

Serafina’s large extended family is devastated by the loss of such a bright soul. She sought only to serve and support any and all who crossed her path.  Her life of faith and devotion to the Church of Rome not only permeated her person, it emanated out, seeping into the lives of all those touched by her compassion and prayer.  She was filled with courage, teaching her children to pray always and everywhere, instilling in them the need to work tirelessly at bring Christ to the world.   Charity flowed unceasingly and the words “no,” or “I can’t do it” rarely came forth from her lips. 

Her family extends their extreme gratitude to all those who came with support and consolation in these grief stricken days.   

Besides her husband, children, and parents, she is survived by her loving sister, Christina Bimonte of Madison.  She was the dearest granddaughter of Serafina DeMusis of Hamden and great-granddaughter of Frank and Filomena Pepe of New Haven, of whose legacy she was so proud. She is also survived by her aunts, Bernadette Bimonte-Hackett and Genevieve Bimonte; her uncle, Gary J. Bimonte; two nieces who treasured her, Sophia Claire Bimonte and Michaela Troy; and her cousin, William Cody Hayes.  In addition, she was the revered daughter-in-law of William and Barbara Kinnare of Madison and the dear sister-in-law to Mairead Kinnare of Madison and Maura Kinnare Maksel and James Maksel of Pennsylvania.  She was predeceased by her father, J. Geoffrey Leverich of New Haven.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 5 Hillhouse Ave., New Haven, on Wednesday, June 20, at 10 a.m., followed by burial in West Cemetery, Madison.  Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, June 19, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford.  In memory of their beloved mother, donations may be made payable to the Children of Serafina Bimonte Kinnare Memorial Fund at any Guilford Savings Bank branch or mailed to One Park Street, Guilford CT 06437.
