Gerald W. Walker, 83, Old Saybrook, formerly of Guilford


Gerald W. Walker, 83, of Middletown Ave., Old Saybrook, formerly a long time resident of Guilford, died on June 15 at the Middlesex Hospital, Middletown.  He was the beloved husband of Patricia Garde Walker.  Gerald was born in New Britain on Nov. 29, 1928, son of the late Gerald W. and Dorothy Wallace Walker.  He had served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked for many years as a counselor for both state and local agencies in Connecticut.  Gerald did his undergraduate and graduate work at the University of New Haven. He enjoyed his life, especially sailing on Connecticut’s shore. 

Besides his wife, he is survived by his beloved children, Gerald W. Walker, Jr. and his wife Teresa of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Joseph A. Walker and his wife Joan of Madison, Jonathan F. Walker and his wife Kristin of Clinton, Robert D. Walker and his wife Sandra of Guilford, Anthony J. Walker and his wife Hsin of Japan, and Maryanne Rode and her husband Kenneth of Portland.  He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Melanie, Ashley, Tasha, Christopher, Cameron, Rachel, Kevin, Jacob, Melissa, and Tabitha.  He was predeceased by a brother, John Walker; a sister, Sally Bibens; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Walker. www.GuilfordFuneralHome.com

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. John R.C. Church, 161 Main St., Old Saybrook, on Tuesday, June 19, at 10 a.m.  Burial will take place privately in the Connecticut State Veteran Cemetery in Middletown.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. John’s Catholic School, 42 Maynard Rd., Old Saybrook, CT 06475, or to Old Saybrook Youth Services, 302 Main St., Old Saybrook, CT  06475.  The Guilford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
