Edward Webster Perkins, 86, Guilford


Edward Webster Perkins, 86, of Guilford, died on May 10.  He was the husband of the late Anne Perkins. Ed was born in New Haven on May 5, 1926, son of the late Ralph and Ethel Perkins. He graduated from Lyman Hall School in 1944 as vice president and class valedictorian. He married the late Anna Garrick in December of 1945.

Ed joined the military in 1943 and served over eight years of active duty in both World War II and Korea, being honorably discharged at the rank of staff sergeant. While serving in World War II, he flew with the 8th Army-Air Force 445th Bomb Group’s 700th Squadron as a B24 Liberator waist gunner.

After returning home from the war, Ed proceeded to build a home in North Guilford from the ground up. He also founded the company Perkins & Sons Floor Refinishing and worked for over 40 years. Prior to that, he had worked for Safe Co Insurance and was a self-employed poultry farmer.

Ed was a long time member of the North Guilford Congregational Church and a founding member of the Guilford Sportsman Association. A passionate outdoors man, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and spent many summers camping along Great Moose Pond in Harmony, Maine. In addition, he was also a long time HAM radio operator and made many friends all over the world.

Ed will be greatly missed by his dear friends who knew him as N1JJT and by his many lifelong friends, too numerous to name.

He is survived by his three sons, Edward, Jr. and his wife Paula, Mark and his wife Laura, and Peter and his wife Jeri. He is also survived by three loving grandchildren, Carl John, Zachariah, and Pamela. He was predeceased by his brother Aubrey and his sister Charlotte.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 26, at 1 p.m., at the North Guilford Congregational Church, 159 Ledge Hill Rd., Guilford, CT 06437.
