04/25/2012 04:00 PMDr. Charles Rockwell Williams, 93, of Essex, died April 24 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. He was the loving husband of 62 years to the late Loraine Fairchild Williams. Dr. Williams was born on Oct. 5, 1918, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Williams. He was a graduate of Deerfield Academy and received degrees from Wesleyan University, Yale University, and Cornell Medical College. He also served as an officer in the U.S Army Medical Corps in both the South Pacific and European Theaters during World War II.
A longtime resident of Fairfield, Dr. Williams had maintained a private medical practice in Fairfield for over 35 years and held various positions at Bridgeport Hospital, including chief of the internal medicine section, vice president and president of the medical staff, and chief of staff, and he served as a member on the board of director’s executive committee.
He is survived by his five children, John Williams and his wife Gail of Milford, Elizabeth Williams of Milford, Frederick Williams and his wife Marie of Goffstown, New Hampshire., David Williams and his wife Kate of Guilford, and Dr. Jeffrey Williams and his wife Holly of Woodacre, California. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Carson, Chase, Courtney, John, Michele and Noelle; his sister, Mary Lee Williams of Boston, Massachusetts; his brother David of Vero Beach, Florida; and his dear friend, Robbin Reynolds of Essex.
A memorial service will be held at Essex Meadows, 30 Bokum Rd., Essex, on Friday, May 11, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Floor 3, Meriden, CT 06450-4858.
