01/25/2012 11:00 PMEvelyn Z. Mondani, 80, a 60 year resident of Deep River, died Jan. 23 at the Aaron Manor Healthcare Center in Chester. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul F. Mondani. Evelyn was born in Middletown on Aug. 13, 1931, daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Grzech) Ziobron. She grew up in the Moodus section of East Haddam and was retired from Whelen Engineering in Chester after more than 30 years of service as the company comptroller. Evelyn also served as a Girl Scout leader and had a great passion for golf, which she loved to play at Clinton Country Club, where she was a member. In addition, she was an avid UCONN basketball fan, and she truly loved and enjoyed her time spent with her four beloved grandchildren.
Evelyn’s family thanks all of the medical professionals and home caregivers who supported her overwhelming determination to live.
Evelyn is survived by her three children, Robert P. Mondani of Norwichtown, Peter J. Mondani and his wife Donna of Cheshire, and Carol M. Hanover and her husband Greg of Old Saybrook; her brother, Richard Ziobron of Sheffield, Vermont; and her four grandchildren, Peter, Jr., Mark, Patrick, and Allyson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and good friends.
Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St., Centerbrook, on Sunday, Jan. 29, from 3 to 6 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 30, at Saint Joseph’s Church, 48 Middlesex Ave., Chester, at 11 a.m., followed by burial in Fountain Hill Cemetery, Deep River.
