Sandy St. Clair, 68, of St. James Plantation, Southport, North Carolina, died at her home on Dec. 30 surrounded by family and friends, after a lengthy battle with ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease. She was the wife of 46 years to Stillman St. Clair. Sandy was born in New Haven on May 7, 1943, and spent her childhood in Branford, where she attended and graduated from Branford High School in 1961.  She also graduated from Becker Junior College in Worcester, Massachusetts, and in 1963 she returned to New Haven, where she worked for the Yale Medical School.

In 1965, Sandy married Stillman St. Clair in East Haven. After two years in the U.S. Army, they settled in the St. Louis, Missouri, area, where they lived for 15 years.  While in St. Louis she served as office manager for a number of doctors and served on the board of St. Richard’s Catholic Church and School. 

In 1982, she and Stillman moved to Southington, where they lived for 12 years.  There, she managed the office for a prescription drug company and was on the board of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, where she also coordinated a number of church projects.  In 1994 they moved back to St. Louis, where they lived until 2007, when they retired to their home in Southport, North Carolina.

The St. Clair family thanks Mary McNear, Tammy Blake, and others of Lower Cape Fear Hospice, as well as Salita Gleason, Maggie Orr, and others from Coastal Companion Care, for the wonderful care they afforded Sandy.

Besides her husband, Sandy is survived by her son Scott and his wife Jeanette of Raleigh, North Carolina, and her daughter Dena Imbergamo and her husband William of Vienna, Virginia.  She is also survived by three granddaughters, Kendall and Taylor St. Clair of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Jennifer Imbergamo of Vienna, Virginia.

A private memorial service will be held.
