Marjorie Spada, 84, Westbrook


Marjorie Spada, 84, of Westbrook, died Dec. 24 after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Joseph Spada, Sr.  Marjorie was born on Feb. 15, 1927, daughter of the late Frank and Carmela (DiSarro) Silvester.  She was a kind and loving person who was always willing to listen and help others. Marjorie was the founder of the Padre Pio Foundation of America in Cromwell, and had been the owner and administrator of the Essex Rest Home for over 36 years.

The family thanks Dr. Peter Dixon of Essex and the Shoreline Medical Center of Middlesex Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.

She is survived by two children, Margo Creeron and her husband Edward of Essex and Joseph Spada of Arizona; nine grandchildren, Joseph Spada III and his wife Megan of Michigan, Carol Spada of Arizona, Timothy Spada of Arizona, Nicole Spada of Middletown, Keith Murphy of Moodus, Ryan Murphy of Old Greenwich, Michael Spada of Pennsylvania, Christopher Spada of Connecticut, and Gabriel DiCharra of California; and four great-grandchildren, Joshua Spada, Lauren Spada, Peter Murphy, and Eric Murphy. She is also survived by three sisters, Elsie Silvester of Old Saybrook, Rita Spencer of Maine, and Louise Gaffney of Florida; her daughter-in-law, Debra Spada of Middletown; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Michael Spada, and her brother, Frank Silvester. 

Her family will receive friends from 9:15 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass at 10 a.m. on Jan. 14 at St. Mark’s Church, McVeigh Rd., Westbrook. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Padre Pio Foundation of America, 463 Main St., Cromwell CT 06416.
