Joseph E. Goulet, Sr., 83, Guilford
Joseph E. Goulet, Sr, 83, a long time resident of Guilford, died July 26 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Jean M. Longo Goulet. Joseph was born in Waterbury on May 21, 1928, son of the late Philip W. Goulet and Helen Church Goulet. Joseph proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as an engineer during World War II and the Korean War aboard the aircraft carriers USS Monterey (CVL-26) and USS Oriskany (CV-34).
After his service duty, Joseph worked in maintenance at the Wonder Bread Company in New Haven. Later, he worked as a licensed electrician for Evarts Electric in Madison before becoming a self-employed electrician for over 30 years.
Joseph was a parishioner of St. George Church, Guilford. He was also an avid Mets and UCONN Women’s Basketball fan.
He is survived by his beloved children, Joseph E. Goulet, Jr. of Branford, Paul A. Goulet and George T. Goulet, both of Guilford, and Carolyn G. Vanacore and her husband Mark of Guilford; three loving grandchildren, Derek J. Goulet, and Megan H. and Christopher J. (“CJ”) Vanacore; and a sister, Helen Licnikas of Waterbury. He was predeceased by his brother, Philip Goulet; four sisters, Eugenia (Jean) Lee, Ruth (Betty) Genovese, Katherine (Kay) Goulet, and Mary Festa; and a half-brother, Francis Way.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St., Guilford, on Monday, Aug. 1 at 10 a.m., followed by burial with military honors in Alder Brook Cemetery, Boston St., Guilford. Friends may call on Sunday, July 31, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford.
