07/12/2011 12:00 AMVincent Joseph Maturo, 82, formerly of Campbell Ave., West Haven, died July 10 at Apple Rehab Laurel Woods of East Haven. He was the husband of the late Phyllis Daddio Maturo. Vincent was born in New Haven on June 26, 1929, son of the late Frank and Rita Carboni Maturo. He was a graduate of Hillhouse High School where he played football.
Vincent had worked in various positions for 44 years for the former New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroads, ConRail, and later for Amtrak until his retirement in 1981. In addition, he was an avid sports fan of both professional and local high schools and colleges.
The family extends a special “Thank You” to the entire staff at Apple Rehab Laurel Woods of East Haven for the excellent care given to Vincent during his stay.
Vincent is survived by three children, Linda Maturo Keil and her husband Paul of North Haven, Rita Kendall of Hamden, and Frank Maturo and his wife Carrie Long Maturo of Darien. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rachael Kendall and David and Peter Maturo, as well as his cousin, Marie Tonucci of East Haven.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven, on Wednesday, July 13, at 9:15 a.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Lawrence Church, West Haven, at 10 a.m., followed by entombment in the St. Lawrence Garden Mausoleum. The visiting hours will be Tuesday, July 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vincent & Phyllis Maturo Scholarship Fund at Notre Dame High School, 24 Ricardo St., West Haven, CT 06516, or to the Connecticut Hospice Homecare, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
