Lester G. Andrews, 86, of East Haven, died July 4 at the West Haven Veterans Affairs Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Dolores J. Botwright Andrews. He was born in New Haven on Dec. 12, 1924, son of the late Harvey and Esther Doane Andrews. Lester was a graduate of the former Commercial High School and served with the U.S. Navy from 1942 to1946. He had been employed for many years as a toolmaker for Winchester Arms, the Newton-New Haven Company, and lastly the Geo-Metric Tool Company, from which he retired.

He is survived by his children, Caryljean Andrews of East Haven, Patricia Andrews of East Haven, James Andrews and his wife Jean of Southington, David Andrews of East Haven, Thomas Andrews of Fairfield, California, Robert Andrews and his wife Joann of East Haven, and Paul Andrews and his wife Cindy of Cheshire. He is also survived by two siblings, Shirley Paule of New Haven and Adrea Sturges of Ansonia; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Barry Andrews; his daughter, Joyce Andrews; and a sister, Dorothy Ellis.

His funeral service will be held on Friday, July 8, at 11 a.m., at the Old Stone Church in East Haven. Burial with military honors will follow in East Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Old Stone Church, 251 Main St., East Haven, CT 06512.  The Clancy Funeral Home, East Haven, is in charge of arrangements.
