Bruce W. Gullans, Sr., 81, Branford
Bruce W. Gullans, Sr., 81, beloved husband of 55 years and caregiver to Nancy Mahan Gullans of Branford, died in New Haven on May16. He was born in Branford on Nov. 9, 1929, son of the late Carl and Helen Eastwood Gullans. A proud lifelong resident of Branford, he served in the U S. Army during the Korean War as a platoon sergeant and tank commander, and he enjoyed 60 years of 102nd Tank Company outings.
Mr. Gullans was a self-employed electrical contractor who especially enjoyed working at Bruce & Johnson’s Marina. He was a member of American Legion Post 83 in Branford and was also an avid sailor, expert marksman, and an outdoorsman who loved camping in Lyndonville, Vermont, Adirondack hikes, canoeing, and being with nature.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, to whom he was devoted, Jeanne Crowley and her husband William of Branford, Bruce W. Gullans, Jr. and his wife Terry Vegliante of Branford, Ann Gullans and her husband Alden LeClair of Wallingford, and Andrew Gullans of New Haven. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Justin, Jessica, and Caitlin Crowley, Jamie and Rachael Gullans, and Evan and Desi LeClair; his brother, Robert Gullans and his wife Madeline; his aunt, Luella Eastwood of North Branford; his brother-in-law, Alfred Mahan; and his sister and brother-in-law, Natalie and Paul Birbarie. He was predeceased by his brother, Carl, Jr.
