Primo C. Carnabuci, KIA and MIA of the Korean War, Old Saybrook

Primo C. Carnabuci of Old Saybrook, KIA and MIA of the Korea War, will arrive home on May 10 at Bradley International Airport under military, state, and local escort.  He was the son of the late Charles and Mary (Orsini) Carnabuci.  Primo joined the U.S. Army on Aug. 17, 1948, with the 8th Cavalry Regiment (1st Cavalry Division) and had taken up positions north and west of the town of Unsan in North Korea.  During the night of Nov. 1 and 2, 1950, the 8th Cavalry Regiment was attacked and overwhelmed by elements of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Forces. Private First Class Carnabuci, along with 600 men, were reported missing in action (MIA). Fifty-nine years later, Corporal Carnabuci, who was posthumously promoted to the rank of corporal, was found during gold-mining operations in North Korea and his body was identified.

Primo is survived by his brother, Dominic Carnabuci of Old Saybrook, along with cousins, nieces, and nephews.

To tribute Primo, family and friends may visit the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd.
