04/28/2011 12:00 AMBarbara Delight Welles Robertson, 85, died at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford on April 27. She was the widow of the late Melvin Robertson, to whom she was married for 57 years. Barbara was born in Branford on June 13, 1925, daughter of the late Edith Palmer and Robert H. Welles. A life-long resident of Stony Creek, she graduated from the Branford school system and then received an associate’s degree from Larson Junior College. Barbara had worked as a secretary and bookkeeper, most recently for Dougherty Oil Company, from which she retired in 1989.
Her family deeply appreciates the care and compassion shown to her both at the Connecticut Hospice and at the Harbor in the Village at Mariners’ Point.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Canavan of Branford and her husband Eugene and Deborah Hull and her husband Robert of Stony Creek; five grandchildren, James and Alison Canavan, and Douglas, Elisabeth, and Andrew Hull; and her lifelong friends, Sally Page, Patricia Robertson, and Peter Dougherty. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert P. Welles.
Private burial will take place at the convenience of her family. There will be no calling hours. Barbara loved nature and would greatly appreciate that donations in her memory be made to the Branford Land Trust, P. O. Box 254, Branford, CT 06405. The W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, Branford, is in charge of arrangements.
