Lydia Colon Rivera, 83, New Haven


Lydia Colon Rivera, 83, of 45 Donna Drive, New Haven died Jan. 22 at the Arden House, Hamden. She was the wife of Eugenio Rivera. Born in Coamo, Puerto Rico on May 22, 1927, a daughter of the late Jose and Isabel Serrano Colon, Lydia had worked at the former Amy Sue on Ferry Street, New Haven and later for Circuit Wise until her retirement.

She is survived by her children Osvaldo Alicea, Lydia M. Alicea, Luced Melendez and her husband Rafael Rivera, and Maria Alicea; her loving and devoted granddaughter Madelyn Colon; 16 other grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters Angela Martinez and her husband Manuel, Teresa Colon, Guillermina Colon, and Maria Flores and her husband Daniel; and by a host of nieces and nephews.

Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
