01/17/2011 11:00 PMJohn (Jack) McLean, 77, of Guilford, died peacefully at the Connecticut Hospice on Jan. 15, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was the beloved husband of 55 years to Theresa McAllen McLean, and son of the late John W. McLean, Sr. and Philomena Bontatibus McLean. A devoted, husband, father, and grandfather, Jack was a Korean War veteran and had been a 38-year employee of SNET before his retirement in 1989. He had enjoyed fishing with his son Mark and his dad in Stony Creek. He was also an avid weightlifter and was enthusiastic about physical fitness. Jack and his wife Theresa had fond memories of spending time with their friends, Sonny and Floss Bowler. Jack will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Jack’s family thanks Hospice Homecare, especially Debbie Salkins, RN, and Eronda Carney, Jack's home health aide. His family also thanks the doctors, nurses, and staff at Hospice, who treated Jack with the respect and dignity that he deserved.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Mark McLean of Henderson, Nevada, Jacqueline McLean-Morey of Guilford, Jane and Lanny Six of Guilford, and Elizabeth Shea of Guilford. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, who described him as "awesome," Ross McLean of Las Vegas, Nevada, McLean John and Liam John Morey, Brendan and John (Jack) Six, Ainslee and Bridget Shea, and Danellys Vargas, all of Guilford. In addition, he is survived by a great-grandson, Allen McLean of Las Vegas, Nevada; a brother, Robert McLean and his wife Judy of Florida; his brother-in-law, Joseph Landino; his sister-in-law, Jenny McLean; two devoted cousins, Laura and Kenny Burne; and his beloved aunt, Rose Frazer of Stony Creek. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Ellen (Tootsie) Landino, and a brother, William J. McLean.
At Jack’s request, there will be no calling hours. Services will be private.
