01/02/2011 11:00 PMGene E. Congdon, Sr., 81, of Killingworth, died on Dec. 29 at the Middlesex Hospital Hospice. He was the husband of Catherine G. Congdon. He was born on Feb. 8, 1929 in San Antonio, Texas, and was raised in El Paso, Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. In 1955, he graduated from UTEP with a BS degree in geology. Mr. Congdon was a member of the CT Gideons. He was loved, respected, and revered by his family.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his three sons, Gene E. Congdon, Jr. and his wife Leon of San Francisco, California, John J. Congdon and his wife Amy of Milford, and Anthony H. Congdon and his wife Kerry of Enfield; his two daughters, Valerie A. Rogers and her husband Blake of Shelter Valley, California, and Kimberly R. Congdon of Pasadena, Maryland; his five grandchildren, W. IKE Kanadanui Congdon, Amber R. Lovin, Jackson R. Congdon, Tucker C. Congdon, and Asher G. Congdon; and his great-grandson, Sebastian A. Lovin. He was predeceased by his sister, Kay Hart of El Paso, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Chapel Church, 1185 Durham Rd., Madison, on Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Shoreline Christian School, 1185 Durham Rd., Madison, CT 06443-1872.
