12/05/2010 11:00 PMHarry M. Hines, 82, of North Haven, beloved husband, father, and brother, adored teacher and principal, and dear friend, died Dec. 3 with his family by his side. He was the husband of 56 years to Lucille Thomas. He was born in New Haven on Oct. 28, 1928, son of the late Harry S. and Margaret Callahan Hines. He had earned his bachelor’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University and his master’s and sixth year degrees from the University of Connecticut. Mr. Hines was a teacher and administrator for many years and was retired from Quinnipiac School in New Haven.
Known for his wonderful sense of humor, he loved spending time with his family. He was and avid magician and member of the Society of American Magicians and the International Brotherhood of Magicians, obtaining the Order of Merlin. He was also a member of the Pine Grove Men’s Club.
Besides his wife, he is survived by five children, Linda Zunda and Lisa Brennan of North Haven, Laura Fucci of Guilford, and Leslie Bravato and Leigh Hines, both of Cheshire. He is also survived by four sons-in-law, Robert Fucci, Jonn Brennan, Stephen Bravato, and Stanley Zunda; a brother, George Hines and his wife Cathy of West Haven; three sisters, Peggy Dillon and her husband Joseph of Northford, MaryJane Roy and her husband Roger of West Haven, and Rosemary Petrosemolo and her husband Edward of North Haven; and three sisters-in-law, Marie Carpenter, Ann Hines, and Jean Hines. He was also “Poppy” to Jennifer Zunda, Jaiden and Ryan Brennan, Madison and Sienna Fucci, Andrew and Julianna Bravato, and Hailey Nicolella. He was predeceased by six brothers, James, Gerald, Richard, Robert, and Lawrence Hines, and William Carpenter.
A funeral procession was held from the North Haven Funeral Home on Dec. 6, followed by a mass of Christian burial at St. Barnabas Church. Burial was in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
