11/28/2010 11:00 PMRaymond Lawrence Allen, 85, formerly of Madison, died peacefully on Nov. 25 at the Apple-Rehab Saybrook after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Alma (Vanderhoff Kyttle) Allen. Born in New Haven on Sept. 5, 1925, he was the son of the late Raymond and Olive (Brockway) Allen. He had been an MP in the U.S. Army during World War II and had served as a supernumerary on the Madison Police Department for 15 years. Ray retired in 1988 after 15 years with the Madison Public School System in the maintenance department.
Ray left high school to serve his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and received his high school diploma in a special ceremony with the class of 2008.
His family extends a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Apple-Rehab Saybrook for the compassion, love, and support they gave to Ray. They also extend a special thank you to Beacon Hospice for their support,
Ray is survived by his stepson, Charles Kyttle; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Corey, Christopher, and Trace Kyttle; his great-grandson Trey; and his nephews, Jeffrey and Kent Allen. He was predeceased by two brothers, Merritt Newton Allen and William Ellsworth Allen, both of Madison. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
