Edna Beamon Arrington, 100 Branford


Edna Beamon Arrington, 100, died March 15 at the Branford Hills Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Harvey L. Arrington. She was born in Sunbury, North Carolina, on Sept. 21, 1909, daughter of the late John Ukless Beamon and Priscilla Gatling. Her parents moved to Branford when she was very young; she attended the Branford school system.

Edna was a charter member of the St. Stephen's AME Zion Church in Branford, which was founded on May 23, 1923, and she was involved in many aspects of church life. She attended church up until September 2009 and had served as a missionary and a deaconess, sang in the Gospel Choir, was a member of the Willing Workers, and was the mother of the church. Whatever needed to be done, she did her best to see that it got done.

She is survived by five children who will cherish her memory: Bertha Lucas of New York City, Audrey Corbett of Branford, Jack Arrington of New Haven, Joan Barboza and her husband Kenneth of Branford, and Patricia Arrington of Clinton. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by three sons, Herbert, Arthur, and Kenneth Arrington; two brothers, James L. Beamon and John U. Beamon, Jr.; and three sisters, Irene Lewis, Ellen Brazzell, and Esther Brooks.

A funeral service was held on March 20 at St. Stephen's AME Zion Church, Branford. Burial was in Center Cemetery, Branford. Memorial donations may be made to St. Stephen's AME Zion Church's Ministry of Kindness, 31 Rogers St., Branford, CT 06405. The W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, Branford, was in charge of arrangements.
