The Guilford Conservation Commission, which is appointed by the Board of Selectmen, is tasked with overseeing our town's open space preserves for conservation and passive recreation. Conservation includes protection for water quality and wildlife habitat. Passive recreation includes hiking, mountain biking, and dog walking. It's recently been brought to our attention that dogs allowed off-leash in the East River Preserve are causing harm to wildlife habitat and recreational users. We'd like to gently remind everyone that Guilford has a leash law that applies to all our town's preserves. We'd like to urge dog owners to keep their dogs on a leash whenever they're walking with them on any of these preserves. If you want your dogs to have a chance to run off-leash, you can take them to the Supply Ponds Park in Branford via Short Rocks Road.
