Stocking Walk Returns Dec. 7
On Dec. 7, the Greater Old Saybrook Chamber Stocking Walk returns to Main Street. For $5, participants can walk from store to store to fill their stockings with treats as part of a festive celebration.
Tickets for the event went on sale on Dec. 4, and 150 tickets are available for presale,e with the remaining tickets available starting at 9:30 a.m. at the chamber office on Dec. 7. There were 250 total stockings available. The event will start at 10 a.m., when most of the stores open for the day.
With the purchase of a ticket attendees will be given a stocking which can be filled with treats and gifts from participating stores up and down Main Street. The participating businesses are:
All the Single Kitties, Cottage Flair, Driftwood, Earth & Fire Pottery Studio, Essex Savings Bank, Fine Fettle, Greater Old Saybrook Chamber, Harbor Books, Maven Salon, Maximus Home, Mirsinas Restaurant, Paperback Café, Penny Lane Pub, Saybrook Point Resort & Marina, Sweet Luna's, Swell, Torrison Stone & Garden, Where Memories Are Made.
Chamber Director Judy Sullivan noted that the Stocking Walk takes place at the same time as the town’s Starlight Festival.
“It’s a way to incorporate the businesses more in the day," Sullivan said.
The Starlight Festival is a celebration of the holiday season that will take place mostly around the Town Green. The festival has activities lasting from 2 to 6 p.m. That event will feature attractions like horse drawn wagon rides, carolers, Ms. Emily reading stories, face painting, a craft table, cookie sales, holiday cards for service members, wreaths, a visit from Santa, and a tree lighting.
By having the Stocking Walk at the same time as the event Sullivan said the hope is that families will make a day out of strolling Main Street to check out the shops while taking in the fun holiday atmosphere.
“It’s a nice way to maybe go with your family and explore a shop you’ve never been in and get a treat and maybe see something else you like,” Sullivan said.
Sullivan said the Stocking Walk has become a popular event over the last few years.
“We do sell out so we hope people buy tickets early and come down to participate in a fun family day on the Green,” Sullivan said.
