Closing the Gap Between Generations, One Essay at a Time
12th Evergreen Woods Annual Scholarship Essay Competition Now Open for Students
Press Release, Evergreen Woods
Evergreen Woods, a Life Plan community in North Branford, is thrilled to announce the opening of the 12th Annual Senior Living Communities Silver Pen Writing Competition.
A dedicated panel of Evergreen Woods community members will evaluate each 1,000-word essay submitted, and then award cash prizes totaling up to $3,750 to help two local high school seniors with their post-graduate plans. The competition is open to all high school seniors who live or attend school within 25 miles of the community.
Submissions for the 2025 Silver Pen Award are now open and will close on February 16, 2025. Essays may be submitted on the following topic: How have the extracurricular programs such as music, art, clubs, and/or sports teams helped with your educational and personal growth? How do you feel it would affect the education system if they were taken away?
The Silver Pen Writing Competition was established in 2012 by Evergreen Woods’ parent company, Senior Living Communities. This competition has successfully established intergenerational communication in the local area for the last 12 years.
Each year, the program has continued to grow in success and has awarded more than $554,750 to students as they begin their college and trade school adventures. It is also a unique opportunity for members to give back to the local area and its students by being on The Silver Pen Committee.
The Silver Pen Committee plays a significant role by collaborating in selecting an essay topic, evaluating each submission, and then presenting the awards to the winning students at an awards ceremony. The award ceremony will take place in spring 2025.
High school seniors are encouraged to submit early! For the full rules and to submit the essay, visit Silverpen-SLC.com/
