11/12/2024 04:12 PMMore than 80% of Guilford's registered voters cast ballots in the Nov. 5 election, with 40.53% of voters taking advantage of the state’s new early voting period.
First on the ballot was the presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, against former president Donald Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance from Ohio. Harris and Walz received 9,334 votes, while Trump and Vance received 4,943 votes. While Harris and Walz lost the overall election, they did win in the town of Guilford.
When it comes to positions in the state of Connecticut and the town of Guilford, the Democratic Party almost had a full sweep. In the race for United States Senator, Chris Murphy retained his role, receiving 8,999 votes, while Matthew Corey received 4,479 votes. Murphy has held this position since January 2013 and will continue to assume his position for the next two years.
The Representative in Congress for District 3 was next on the ballot, with current representative Rosa DeLauro running against Michael Massey. DeLauro won, collecting 9,083 votes to Massey’s 5,051, retaining her position.
The State Senator race for Connecticut’s 12th District was between Christine Cohen and Paul Crisci. Cohen was able to receive 9,202 votes, more than Crisci’s 4,962 votes. Cohen, like DeLauro, will keep her position and be an acting State Senator for District 12.
The final space on the ballot was for State Representatives in Districts 86 and 98. Vincent Candelora ran unopposed in his race for District 86 State Representative, being the only Republican to win in the town of Guilford in this election. Current District 98 State Representative Moira Rader kept her position in the race against Richard DiNardo. She had 7,842 votes, while DiNardo had 4,059 votes.
