11/12/2024 01:52 PMMore than 85% of registered Madison voters cast ballots in the Nov. 5 election, with 51.39% voting in the early voting period. In Killingworth, 81.6% of registered voters cast ballots, 40.15% coming during the early voting period.
In the race for the presidency between Democrat Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, against former president Republican Donald Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance from Ohio, Harris and Walz received 7,373 votes, while Trump and Vance received 4,454 votes in Madison. Madison voters cast 58 votes for Green Party candidates Jill Stein and Butch Ware, 58 votes for Libertarians Chase Oliver and Mike ter Maat, 66 votes for petitioning candidates Robert Kennedy Jr. and Nicole Shanahan.
In Killingworth, Harris and Walz received 2,270 votes, while Trump and Vance received 2,061. Stein and Ware received 30 votes, Oliver and ter Maat received 20 votes, and Kennedy and Shanahan received 23 votes.
Further down the ballot, both towns put their support behind incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator Chris Murphy. In Madison, Murphy defeated Republican challenger Matthew Corey 7,317 to 4,479. In Killingworth, Murphy received 2,271 votes to Corey's 1,977. Murphy has held this position since January 2013 and will continue to assume his position for the next two years.
Democrat Joe Courtney, the current Representative in Congress for District 2, ran against Republican Mike France in this year's election. Courtney defeated France in Madison by 7,321 votes to 4,497. Killingworth voters gave 2,234 votes to Courtney and 1,959 to France. Courtney won statewide, retaining the position he has held since 2007.
The race for State Senator in District 12 was next on the ballot, with current senator Democrat Christine Cohen going against Republican challenger Paul Crisci. Cohen received 7,025 votes in Madison to Crisci’s 4,818. In Killingworth, Cohen received 2,209 votes to Crisci's 2,078. Cohen will return to Hartford, assuming the same position she has held since 2019.
In Madison, next on the ballot was State Representative in District 101, currently held by Democrat John-Michael Parker. Parker faced a challenge from Republican Lisa Deane. Parker received 7,157 votes, while Deane amassed 4,708. Parker will continue in his role, one that he has assumed since January of 2021.
Killingworth voters had the choice of Republican incumbent Chris Aniskovich and Democratic challenger Cinzia Lettieri for the 35th General Assembly District. Lettieri narrowly defeated Aniskovich with 2,142 votes to Aniskovich's 2,141 votes. District-wide, however, Aniskovich collected 7,141 votes, while Lettieri received 6,914, which returns Aniskovich to Hartford for a second term.
In Madison’s election for their Registrar of Voters, Democratic incumbent Jim Newton received 6,8155 votes. Gregory Scalzo will replace outgoing Republican Registrar Ann Devine, receiving 4,757 votes.
Killingworth voters will return Democratic Registrar of Voters Nancy J. McCormick behind 2,629 votes.
