Cohen Endorsed by Police Officers Association in Bid for Re-Election

State Senator Christine Cohen (D-Guilford) announced that she has received an endorsement from the Police Officers Association of Connecticut in her bid for re-election to a fourth term in the State Senate.

“I am truly honored to earn this endorsement by our men and women in blue,” said State Senator Christine Cohen. “I have long had a strong working relationship with my local police departments and have a deep respect and appreciation for their work. These brave men and women put their lives on the line every day to serve our communities and I will continue to work alongside them to ensure they have competitive pay, pensions and benefits, that they have the tools they need to keep our residents and themselves safe and can expect fair working conditions.”

Christine Cohen has supported public safety and working families with several pieces of legislation including:

Implementing wrong-way driving countermeasures at high risk exit ramps across the state

Voting for $4.5 million to help build a new police headquarters in North Branford

Securing $150,000 in funding for a vehicle purchase for the Regional Traffic Fatality Response for use by East Haven, North Haven, Branford, North Branford, Madison and Guilford Police Departments

Supporting pilot programs for roadside drug testing and additional Drug Recognition Experts across the state

Expanding workers compensation to cover PTSD for first responders

Closing loopholes in “Red Flag” laws, allowing police officers to remove firearms from an individual who poses a risk to themself or others

Appropriating $1.44 million to fund 18 new domestic violence child and family advocates at domestic violence agencies statewide

Advocating for Crisis Intervention Training to allow collaboration between police officers and social workers when responding to those in mental crisis

The Police Officers Association of Connecticut represents 5,000 police officers from municipal police unions across the state of Connecticut. The organization was founded in 2016 to bring all police officers together, regardless of union affiliation, to be a strong and unified voice in public policy and legislation.

Senator Christine Cohen represents Branford, Durham, East Haven, Guilford, Killingworth, Madison, Middlefield, North Branford and Rockfall and was first elected in 2018. She currently serves as the Chair of the Transportation Committee, Vice Chair of the Banking Committee and as a member of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, the Committee on Children and the General Law Committee.
