Jeweler Building Community with Scavenger Hunt

REGIONAL

Community engagement, helping small businesses, and fun for the entire family, Water Street Jewelry is checking off all three of these boxes with one special event.

For the first year ever, the staff of their Madison and Guilford locations are hosting the Water Street Jewelers Glittering Give-Away, a scavenger hunt allowing community members to participate for a chance to win one of their signature diamond bracelets.

Daniela Balzano, one of the contest organizers, said the popular store is hoping the scavenger hunt will help build community.

“We wanted the event to be very community-based, not just a community in the sense of the towns, but building a community around Water Street Jewelry as well,” Balzano said.

Each week, the store posts a challenge to their social media profiles, associating each challenge with a letter in the store’s name. Balzano said customers can go back and do challenges from previous weeks and still be involved in the giveaway.

“I didn’t really want the giveaway to be dog-eat-dog,” she said. "I just wanted it to be something that everyone could participate in and get involved in, so if they miss out on one week, they can still go back and participate.”

Balzano and co-organizer Antonia Kellner are also using this event to promote and help other local small businesses. While not able to share all of the businesses involved, she mentioned that so far, challenges have been centered around things like animal shelters, coffee shops, and artisans in the community.

“A lot of this event is about giving back,” Balzano said. “All of the challenges have to do with this community and helping other small businesses.

To participate in the scavenger hunt, can visit the Water Street Jewelers locations in Madison, 769 Boston Post Road, or Guilford, 61 Whitfield Street, on Mondays or Tuesdays to receive the clues for past and current challenges. Weekly clues will also be posted to the stores' social media.

The scavenger hunt ends on Wednesday, Nov. 27, and culminates in the Water Street Jewelers holiday event on Monday, Dec. 9, where they will pick a winner who will go home with the diamond bracelet. All participants who completed at least 10 of the 11 challenges will also receive a 20% off voucher for the store.
