Guilford Police Holds Annual Gun Buyback Event

Press Release from Guilford Police Department

On Oct. 5, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., the Guilford Police Department (GPD), in cooperation and collaboration with the Ethan Miller Song Foundation, and as part of the statewide #Keep Kids Safe CT initiative, conducted the fourth annual voluntary gun buyback and safe firearm storage event at the GPD, marking the sixth overall buyback event for Guilford Police. This event was held with the goal of providing a convenient way to turn in unwanted firearms, while also providing safe gun storage options in the form of free gun safes and locking mechanisms to citizens who are interested in safe and responsible storage options for their firearms.

In exchange for turning in a firearm, citizens received gift cards, with $25 for a single/double shot derringer type weapon, $50 for a rifle/shotgun, $100 for a handgun, and $200 for an assault weapon.

All totaled, there were 97 firearms were turned in during the event, including 41 handguns, 56 rifles/shotguns (including 5 assault type weapons), as well as several BB/pellet guns and assorted ammunition. More than 75 gun safes were distributed during the event, as well.

Residents are reminded that they can turn in unwanted weapons for destruction to the GPD at any time.
