The North Madison Congregational Church (NMCC) is holding its Harvest Dinner on Saturday, Nov. 2. There will be dine-in and take-out options available, featuring delicious meals of pumpkin muffins, roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, and mashed turnips, which are grown by church members on their farm just a mile from the church, along with green beans and cranberry sauce, in addition to ending with home-baked apple or pumpkin pie. Whole apple or pumpkin pies and the church’s famous secret-recipe salad dressing may also be ordered for pickup.
There will be two seatings, with one at 5 p.m. and one at 6:30 p.m. Take out is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The cost for the dine-in option is $30 for adults, $25 for seniors (65 and over), and $15 for children (12 and under). The cost for the take-out option is $30 per meal.
There will be around 200 meals served in the large dining room at the church located at 1271 Durham Road in Madison. There will also be around 200 take-out meals available to be picked up. For those picking up, each meal comes in a generous take-out container. Family style packaging of the meal is an option. Pre-payment is encouraged to simplify pick up. Reservations are required for all dine-in and take-out meals by noon on Friday, Nov. 1.

A receipt confirming the details of your reservations or take-out order and the time scheduled for its pickup will be emailed to bring with you. You can also order by emailing the church office at office@northmadisoncc.org and noting “Harvest Dinner” on the subject line or by calling 203-421-3241. The NMCC Harvest Dinner tradition dates back to the 1920s or even earlier. Folks come from all over for the event to not only enjoy the meal, but also to volunteer to help in its preparation. It’s an annual tradition.
The best part of the Harvest Dinner for the members of NMCC is the preparation that includes multiple generations working side by side. This is especially important to new folks who have recently joined the congregation and are looking for ways to meet and become part of the community. It’s “all hands on deck” as everyone comes together to peel apples and potatoes, assemble and bake the pies, mash potatoes, make gravy, pack up take-out orders, and serve on the wait staff wearing their signature red aprons, white shirts, and black pants. This is what it’s all about.
