Press Release from Ivoryton Library

The Ivoryton Library recently received a gift of a beautiful stained glass window from local artist Diane Blasius. Using the framework of an original window from the library, built in 1889, Blasius designed 24 six-inch-by-six-inch blocks depicting the many facets of the history of and life in the village of Ivoryton, including images of elephants, indicating the manufacturing trade which built the village nearly 175 years ago.

The window also includes the masks of comedy and drama representing the Ivoryton Playhouse, as well as a fife, a drum, and musical notes for the Company of Fifers and Drummers Museum. Colorful holiday lights wind through a few blocks for Ivoryton Illuminations, the nationally recognized holiday event held in December; and colorful pumpkins for the Ivoryton Village Pumpkin Festival, which is now its 25th year.

There are books in all four corners of the window, representing the library having served as the cornerstone of the village for over 150 years.

The Ivoryton Library is grateful to have been chosen as the home for this wonderful artwork. The library is located at 106 Main Street and is open seven days a week. The library’s hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday; 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday; and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
