North Haven Garden Club’s September Meeting to Feature Presentation on Dahlias
Press Release from Cindy Golia
The North Haven Garden Club will hold its first meeting of the 2024-’25 year on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the North Haven Congregational Church, located at 28 Church Street, across from the Town Green. The meeting will feature speaker Maria Kaynish, who will be giving a presentation on dahlias.
Dahlias are perennials in warmer climates and are considered annuals below hardiness zone 8 by the United States Department of Agriculture. These flowers grow best in full sunlight with well-drained soil. Kaynish’s presentation will show the different types and sizes, as well as how to grow and care for this tuber perennial in our zone 6B.
Dahlias symbolize elegance, creativity, positivity, and growth. They also represent inner strength, something which is likely due to the plant's ability to tolerate harsh conditions. Other general meanings associated with the dahlia are gracefulness, standing out in a crowd, and embracing positive changes.
The meeting is open to the public for a $5 guest fee. Light refreshments, coffee, tea, and water will be served after the meeting.
